our mission

Northland Futsal Academy is a local company, based in Whangarei, New Zealand and exists to give children aged 7+ years a fun, unique and high quality futsal experience.

Using the South American passion, flair and skill as a starting point for our inspiration, our aim is to provide a unique and exciting opportunity for players of all skill levels and experience to play futsal while developing creative, innovative and highly skillful players.

our philosophy

Work hard. Have fun.

Talent is not born but is developed through deliberate and purposeful practice.

Enjoyment increases with learning and refining new skills and improved match performances.

Courtesy and respect  for other players, parents, coaches and referees.

Creativity and innovation are vital attributes for any player.

A positive, player centered and relationship based coaching approach is  best.

Making mistakes and trying new things must be encouraged and celebrated.

Children’s physical, social and emotional safety must come first.

Mainly because it's fun...but also:

the nature of futsal places a large emphasis on technical skill and ability in situations of high pressure, and is subsequently an excellent breeding ground for football competencies that can be translated into the 11-a-side format of the game. Many of the all time best footballers played futsal in their youth and credit it with supporting their footballing development; players of the caliber of Pele, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Lionel Messi and Neymar to name but a few of the South American legends all played and enjoyed Futsal.

The surface, ball and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces. Players typically touch the ball up to 12 times more often that in a regular game of football and constantly influence the game off the ball as well.

Futsal is loads of fun and dramatically increases player coordination, balance, agility and skill.

To name but a few

"In Argentina, when I was a young boy, I used to play a lot of futsal on the street and with Newell's Old Boys. It was a really fun game that's helped me a great deal."

Lionel Messi

"A lot of the moves I make originate from Futsal and to this day my ball control is pretty much a futsal player's ball control."

“Futsal was important in helping to develop my ball control, quick thinking, passing….also for dribbling, balance, concentration.

Futsal was very, very important, no doubt.”
